Location

Hutcherleigh is a beautiful, chocolate box vision Hamlet in the centre of the South Devon Countryside. Hutcherleigh is made up of only a few properties within the village parish of Blackawton. To find the Hamlet you will be driving along single-track lanes for about 5 minutes after leaving the main road. Ciders and Shepherds is right in the centre of the Hamlet and offers Guests a very rural retreat for your holiday.
The Hamlet and properties offer the best of both worlds. It offers a fully immersive experience of living in the Country however, less than a 5-minute drive and you will find yourself in the village of Blackawton. If you fancy walking into the village, especially if you are visiting the local pub it would take around 30-40 minutes. There are some hills, so it will definitely keep you fit after a big pub lunch and maybe a few drinks! There are also lots of public footpaths and bridle ways to explore in the area for you to explore.
Blackawton is a small yet busy and very popular village in South Devon. There is a huge sense of community and lots of events each year that keep Guests coming back year on year. The most famous event is Blackawton Worm Charming. There is a community Village Shop, great for a top-up shop, you can also buy local produce, meats, wine, homemade cakes and bread. It is very well stocked. If you didn’t fancy cooking then pop to the local village pub, The George Inn, for some delicious melt-in-the-mouth meals and choose from a selection of locally brewed beer.
Hutcherleigh itself is placed centrally to all popular town destinations within South Devon such as Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Totnes. The properties are also within short driving distances of our local beaches such as Blackpool Sands, Slapton Sands, Strete Gate and Lannacombe.
Take a 15-minute drive and you’ll find yourself in Dartmouth. This town is famous for the River Dart and it is where the Queen met Prince Phillip, at the Dartmouth Royal Naval College. Dartmouth is great for watersports, try your hand at Paddle Boarding, Kayaking and if you see yourself as a ‘Captain in the Making ‘ then hire a boat for the day and sail along the River Dart. That is not the only attractive thing about Dartmouth, visit the historic Dartmouth Castle and stop by the Castle Tea Rooms for some refreshments. Journey up the other side of the River, catch a ferry and visit Agatha Christies House for the day and walk around the house and extensive gardens. There is so much to do!
Kingsbridge is also a 15 min drive from Ciders and Shepherds, it is the traditional market town and sits on the Kingsbridge Estuary. This town offers a different type of shopping experience from antique shops and art galleries to home stores. Kingsbridge has a strong ethos of shopping local and prides itself on its range of independent shops.
Totnes another 15 min drive is a quirky market town at the head of the River Dart Estuary, it is a town full of history and boasts ample opportunities to shop in independent stores, buy unique gifts for yourself, family or friends and every week the town bursts to life with traders selling handmade crafts and food. Every Tuesday take a trip through time by visiting the Elizabethan market (May-September), traders dress in period costumes.
Cider and Shepherds offer the perfect break whether you want to immerse yourself in country living or be by the coast.  It also offers access to some of the best towns that Devon has to offer.
